Getting there

Car – There are no hotels within reasonable walking distance of the venue – Castle Hill RSL Club. Whether you are local or visiting Sydney a car is the most convenient way of getting to and from the venue – and, where applicable, nearby accommodation. If flying into Sydney a hire care (from about $200 for 4 days) will probably be cheaper than paying public transport to and from the Castle Hill region – and also the cost of getting to and from the venue each day. It also gives the option of staying in significantly cheaper accommodation a bit further away – as the Unlock the Past organising team and some speakers are doing. See notes below on accommodation.

Courtesy bus – Castle Hill RSL operates a free courtesy bus in the evening after 6pm – to accommodation within 5km. If staying within 5km a pick up may be available for a $2 fee. Some hotels may have a courtesy bus. If not a taxi may be needed to get to and from the venue.

Train – The opening of the new Sydney Metro North West Line (Chatswood to Castle Hill and beyond) will be a good option for some locals as well as others who may wish the stay in places close to stations along this line – or maybe even in the Sydney CBD. Trains run every few minutes. The Castle Hill Station is 1.2km from the Castle Hill RSL. Unless you are prepared to walk, a taxi is probably the only way to get from the station to the RSL Club. The club courtesy bus may be able take you to the station after 6pm.

Accommodation

There are a number of hotels with 4-8 km of the venue. But most of those are quite expensive and with the demand some may already be booked out. If flying into Sydney then consider hiring a car (about $200 for 5 days) and staying a bit further away at something like the Waldorf Pennant Hills, a 4 star hotel with rooms from about $120 a night, or Ibis Thornleigh. This is probably cheaper than staying closer with higher accommodation and public transport/taxi costs – and gives complete freedom to come and go when you want. If you have someone to travel with (and even share accommodation with) costs can be further reduced.

Here are some options within reasonable distance of the venue. Distance and travel times from Google maps – actual travel times may be longer, especially when traffic is heavier.
